MEDIA STUDIES:
Media is part of our everyday lives and you have developed sophisticated media 'reading'skills without even knowing it. This course will take these skills and use them to analyse and understand how the 'messages' we receive every day are constructed, and the effect they have on us as an audience. We study the media on an equal balance of theory and practical work.
Key Stage 3: Students are introduce to key concepts and skills of Media during their performing Arts lessons in Year 7 and 8. In Year 9, Students are delivered a Media Studies module which introduces them to the subject as a possible option in Year 10 and 11.
Key Stage 4: The Media Studies course will earn the student a GCSE qualification over a 2 year period. The course consists of one exam (40%) and three coursework assignments, including a written essay, a small-scale practical exercise and a group practical production. Students will study a range of different mediums from Action Films and Television Comedy to websites, print advertising and Music Videos.
FILM STUDIES:
At Cecil Jones College we offer a successful A Level in Film Studies. This course will take your interest, skills in observation, and analysis to deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of films - the major art form of the twentieth century. You will study film as a medium of communication, as an art form, as an important social force and as an industry. In particular this course will concentrate on the relationship between film and your response to it. You learn about the ways in which films are made and constructed to create meanings for the audience.
